When people talk about artificial intelligence, they usually mention automation, business processes, programming, or marketing. But sometimes AI can be useful in a completely different role — as a tool for creative collaboration with children. That's how we ended up with a series of comics about Vasylynka — my daughter's favourite toy.
How the Idea Came About
Like many parents, I occasionally look for ways to engage my child in something interesting — especially when the weather is bad, the child is sick, or we simply want to spend time together without cartoons. One day we decided to try making our own story. The main character became Vasylynka — my daughter's favourite toy.
How It Works
The process turned out to be surprisingly simple. First we photograph the toy from different angles. Then we come up with a plot — sometimes the child invents it, sometimes we do it together, and sometimes we ask GPT to help develop the idea. After that we create individual scenes, illustrations, and dialogues. The result is a real comic where the main character is a familiar figure.
Why It Works
The most interesting part isn't even the comic itself — it's the child's participation in the process. She doesn't just read a finished story. She invents adventures, decides what the hero will do, chooses characters, and influences how the plot develops. The child essentially becomes a co-author — and that's what generates the most excitement.
These stories unexpectedly help develop imagination, narrative skills, language, and cause-and-effect thinking — all in a game format, without any feeling of studying or compulsion.
AI doesn't replace spending time with your child. It can be a tool that helps bring children's ideas to life faster. Sometimes one imagined story about a favourite toy brings more joy than one more episode of a cartoon.
